The APF Futures Festival 2019 – Radical Transformations
The Futures Festival is an annual 12-hour virtual gathering hosted by the Association of Professional Futurists. The Festival is an opportunity for people across the globe to share projects, insights, experiences, and ideas. Futures Festival ’19 brings together projects that consider, provoke, and support radical transformations.
Relation to TRANS-
Our theme radical transformations is about reframing, redesigning, reengineering, and rethinking.
We see ‘Radical’ not as something negative or polarizing, but to stand for nontraditional, unique, visionary, creative, ingenious. When everything feels so complicated and nuanced, our team stands behind the belief that we need radical transformations across the board if we want to rewrite the possibilities for tomorrow. People and projects harnessing disruptive ideas to upend the status quo.
While the festival showcases individual speakers, we believe radical transformations are collective actions. The collective action of people from all walks of life, united by a common vision to imagine something radically different if the present isn’t doing us justice. We want the festival to inspire you, to connect you to new ideas, projects and people, build a community of action.
The Organizer(s) / Speakers
How can we get out of a 'digital' that is too greedy and not resilient enough? How can we learn to do more with less and accept that things may not have to be 'infinite' and always 'more' (as 'it is not the digital we want, but the one we can afford')? Can we rethink our relationship to material, objects and digital and create a feeling of attachement towards those to help with life cycles? Is it possible to reset and start fresh, to deconstruct to better rebuild? And, what is the impact of the society on the digital and not only the digital on the society; what is in our power? Can we accept a form of renunciation?
